The City of
the Angels Foundation is situated about 2 hours from Sao
Paulo city, in the District of Ouro Fino Paulista. The
region is covered by the remains of the Atlantic forest
where the sierra begins its descent to the coastal area
of Santos and neighbouring towns on the south Atlantic
Ocean. It is an environmentally protected region due to
its strategic abundance of water deposits that supply
the neighbouring cities, and at the same time, neglect
and the predatory

action of
human habitation, continue to be serious threats to
its viability.
We would hope, however, by our presence and action,
to contribute towards the preservation and
enhancement of this special place where the dream of
another possible world might find fertile ground to
grow and flourish in.
It is in this place of fragile beauty that we are
trying to put together art, ecology and spirituality
in the context of a pedagogy of transformation,
where children and adolescents who have been wounded
by society, may find a way to the many dimensions of
human dignity and integrity. Specifically, the
children and adolescents who come from the shanty
towns (favelas) of the city, engage in a pedagogy of
transformation through the medium of the plastic,
scenic and martial arts.

Brazil, the Foundation counts on the support of a
network of couples from the region of Sao Bernardo,
Santo André, Suzano and Vila Madelena in Sao Paulo
city.

It is hoped,
and experience to date backs this up, that children and
youth involved in this process will develop a new awareness
of how to become protagonists for peace and artisans of hope,
in situations of violence, the drug culture, crime and the
destruction of our natural environment.
This Utopia of another possible world, is a kind of rainbow
that stretches across the heavens, one foot in the favela
with its enormous socio-economic and cultural complexity,
and the other in the forest, where contact with nature, the
animals, the kitchen garden, workshops in the arts and a
silence pregnant with life, offer the possibility not just
of relief from personal and collective wounds, but of
genuine hope for a new way to be in our world. |
